China has big capacity and resources for the marine industry. Under the current depressed shipbuilding market, the nation should greatly develop the ocean economy to better use the facilities, Fang Shujia, vice president of the Chinese Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (CSNAME) said during the 2012 Shiptec in Dalian yesterday.
The ocean economy should be a new development trend for China shipbuilding industry. The nation has 6,200 non-residential islands, which are big resources to develop offshore, yacht, cruise, passenger-roro vessels, fishing boats and tourism. Fang said: “The shipbuilding downturn makes many facilities stop operation, that is a waste of resources, and that is why we should develop ocean economy to make the capacity work again.” He added: “The shipbuilding industry is difficult at present, we should support the development of relevant industries, and that would be a long-term strategy.
Shiptec China 2012, the biennial maritime exhibition, take place from October 23 to 26 in Dalian, China and will set new records in terms of participation.
The 10th edition of Shiptec China is expected to attract 600 exhibiting companies and 23,000 professional visitors.
Six international pavilions will be present in this year's Shiptec including Denmark, Germany, Japan, Korea, Norway and the Netherlands.
Seven IACS member class societies were registered again like ABS, CCS, ClassNK, DNV, GL, KR and RINA.

Korea Marine Equipment Association (KOMEA) manages Korean Pavilion at ‘Shiptec China 2012’ jointly with Korea-Trade Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) from October 23 to 26.
KOMEA expressed its plans to enhance Korean marine equipment makers' overseas marketing over China, by taking part in Shiptec China.
Recently most of China's small-and-medium sized shipyards stay in the doldrums, however, as larger shipbuilders begin to build high-value vessels, such as offshore related unit/vessel, green ship, etc., KOMEA hopes to find new demand.
Shiptec China 2012 will give an opportunity in promoting products and establishing trust with shipowners.
As held in Dalian, where Korean major shipyards have entered, including STX Dalian, Samsung Heavy Industries, etc., Korean domestic equipment manufacturers will be easier to build export base.
China's shipbuilders and equipment makers, such as CSIC, CSSC, CSC Shipbuilding, etc., participate in the exhibition.
As for Korean participants, there are 21 equipment manufacturers, such as NK, STACO, Tanktech, Donghae Machinery, Shin Heung ENG, Ra In Ho, etc., as well as four related institutions.
KOMEA said that with 'Export' as its biggest project, it will develop various program.

The representative of China CITIC Bank Mr. Huang says that they care more about the recovery of the market. Mr. Huang reveals that currently financial support for ship industry is strictly limited due to the depression.
On the salon, Shanghai Quanya and Shanghai Ruiwei separately put a 3600PS tug and a 400-person DP2 accommodation barge for sale. China Huahan Industry and Trade is planning to resell a CCS-classed 57,000dwt bulker. All the participants were trying to promote ships for sale at hand or stated the ships they wanted.

Offshore Support Vessel World Forum (OSV World 2012), was held on 11-12 Sep 2012 in Renaissance Shanghai Pudong Hotel. The event is jointly presented by The Oriental Pro-Energy Consulting Organization (Topco) and Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group. OSV World 2012 has attracted more than a hundred industry professionals. Dutch shipbuilder Damen Shipyards has, at the SMM 2012 in Hamburg, presented its new Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessel design, the AHTS 200.
The anchor handler, a 200 ton bollard pull vessel is one of several designs presented by Damen at one of the biggest maritime industry events in the world, the SMM 2012.
It has a large work deck, high-end deck equipment, an extensive winch layout as well as ROV support capabilities.
The AHTS 200, suitable for deep water operation up to 3000 meters, is equipped with an innovative electrically driven deepwater winch package. The company explains that the benefits of using electric winches is that day need limited maintenance and are highly efficient because they use less energy conversion steps, which lowers emissions and operational costs.
The hull of the vessel has slender lines optimized for low resistance figures while the straight frames in the fore body reduce slamming forces and de-acceleration levels.
Furthermore, the anchor handler of 89.10 Length o.a, is a suitable platform for additional features such as: Fire Fightning, Oil Recovery, Diving Support, Subsea construction.
