Hammonia signs for up to eight Huangpu Wenchong MPP newbuilds
German owner Hammonia Reederei has turned to the shipbuilding market in China to expand its fleet of multipurpose heavylift vessels.
The company which manages vessels for the Hamburg-listed Hammonia Schiffsholding will be bolstering its business with a series of four 13,500 dwt newbuilds from CSSC-affiliated Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding.
The deal with an undisclosed value comes with options for another four vessels of the same type.
Delivery dates for the 150-m-long ships that will feature two sets of 450-ton cranes and meet the latest emission requirements have not been divulged.
Set up in 2005, Hammonia owns and manages a diversified fleet of more than 40 ships, including boxships, MPPs, tankers and heavyload carriers.
Other German MPP specialists such as dship Carriers, Candler Schiffahrt and Carsten Rehder have also placed newbuilding orders this year.
