During the China 12th Five-Year-Plan, China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and China Petrochemical Corporation (SINOPEC) are boosting their investments in offshore projects. It is predicted that during the "12th Five-Year-Plan Period ” ,the market scale of the Chinese offshore oil field service industry (including drilling) will reach RMB 190 billion. Under this industry developing momentum, some experts has claimed that the depletion of oil and gas resources in shallow water, coupled with the increase in energy demand, will force the China petroleum industry to move into deeper water.
