Evalend reloads at Yangzijiang with $220m LR1 quartet
Kriton Lendoudis-led Evalend Shipping is returning to Yangzijiang Shipbuilding for four more LR1 product tankers, further expanding the Greek owner’s sizeable newbuilding programme in China.
Brokers have placed Evalend behind four ships of around 74,000 dwt, with prices quoted at about $55m apiece, putting the deal at roughly $220m. Delivery slots are reported in the 2028-29 window.
The latest deal would take Evalend’s LR1 tally at Yangzijiang to more than 10 ships. The owner already has a series of 75,000 dwt units at the yard, the first of which, Mugello, was delivered last year. New Yangzi handed over the fourth vessel, Camaro (pictured), in March.
Evalend has been a regular customer of Yangzijiang across several ship types, also contracting MR product tankers and bulk carriers at the Chinese builder.
Lendoudis has kept up the contracting pace elsewhere in China this summer. Evalend has been linked to four 93,000 cu m VLACs at Hengli Heavy Industries for delivery in 2028 and early 2029, as well as three firm plus one optional 211,000 dwt bulkers at Tangshan Dajin for 2029-30 delivery.
Yangzijiang entered the second half with 41 tankers worth $2.09bn in its orderbook and an overall backlog of 256 ships valued at $22.4bn, stretching through 2030.
