Shipping operator Finnlines has taken delivery of its last Eco class hybrid roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) vessel, called Finneco III.
Delivered at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu), the vessel is part of the company’s €500m Newbuilding Programme.
The programme includes three hybrid Ro-Ro vessels and two hybrid Ro-Pax vessels.
Finnlines took delivery of the other two Eco class vessels, called Finneco I and Finneco II, in April and May, respectively.
Finneco III will operate on Finnlines’ Biscay line along with its sister vessels.
The Finnish flagged vessel has an engine output of 2 x 12,780kW and design speed of 20.7 knots.
Each of the Eco class vessels has a length of 238m, gross tonnage of 60,515, and cargo capacity of 5,800 lane metres.
With the ability to carry 400 trailers per voyage, the vessels have 40% more cargo-carrying capacity compared with what were previously the largest vessels in the company’s fleet.
Finnlines board chairman Emanuele Grimaldi said: “This is a significant milestone in our €500m Newbuilding Programme, and we are delighted to welcome the Finneco trio to the Finnlines fleet.
“Through our ambitious investment, we can bring to our customers, not only the economies of scale and increased frequency, but a green and well-scheduled infrastructure in the Baltic Sea, the North Sea and the Bay of Biscay.”
In April, Yara Marine secured a contract for the deployment of shore power systems on board three Finnlines vessels.
