CIMC SOE marks first containership order
China’s Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (CIMC SOE) has secured its debut order in the containership sector.
A subsidiary of CIMC Enric Holdings, best known for its gas shipbuilding capabilities, will build a pair of LNG dual-fuel feeder boxships for an unnamed overseas owner in a deal worth over $140m with options attached for two more vessels.
The ships will feature MAN’s high-pressure dual-fuel main engines and use triple type C fuel tanks. The concept design has been carried out by a German company, while the LNG gas supply system will be independently designed by CIMC SOE.
Established in 2006, CIMC SOE has delivered close to 40 small to medium-scale gas carriers, more than 300 type C tanks and over 50 offshore oil and gas processing modules. The yard formerly known as Sinopacific Offshore was taken over by CIMC Enric in 2017.
