Prominent Greek shipowner Adam Polemis is back in the tanker newbuilding market with a fresh order for suezmaxes in China, adding to recent transactions around both newbuilds and asset sales from his New Shipping group.

Shipbrokers in Europe report that Polemis has signed a deal with CSSC Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding for two firm 163,000 dwt suezmaxes, with options for two more. Deliveries are lined up for 2028. The ships are priced at around $77m apiece, which brokers note is slightly below current market levels.

The move comes as New Shipping adjusts its fleet through a series of sales and acquisitions. Earlier this year, the company offloaded two vintage VLCCs—New Tinos and New Naxos, both built in 2003—for around $37m and $33m respectively. Meanwhile, the group was recently linked to the purchase of the newly built LR2 Hesperia Tide from China’s Zhoushan Changhong shipyard, for a reported $70m.

New Shipping currently operates close to 30 ships across the crude and dry bulk sectors. The company is currently listed on shipbuilding databases with on firm LR2 newbuild at Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co (DSIC) set to deliver in 2026.

Polemis’s order joins a growing list of suezmax bookings at Chinese yards. George Prokopiou’s Dynacom Tankers has signed for six units at New Times Shipbuilding, while Eastern Pacific Shipping has booked up to four LNG dual-fuel suezmaxes at Hengli Heavy Industry.
