Carisbrooke lines up newbuilds in China
Carisbrooke Shipping is adding to its fleet with a fresh order for 6,600 dwt general cargo vessels at Jiangsu Dajin Heavy Industry in China.
Brokers at Claksons report the UK-based owner and operator has signed up for three firm ships, with options for another three. The firm units are set for delivery in the second half of 2027. Pricing details have not been divulged.
Carisbrooke operates a fleet of nearly 30 dry cargo and multipurpose vessels. The family-owned shipping company ordered one Labrax 7,280 dwt newbuild at Thecla Bodewes yard in September 2023 and earlier this year secured backing from German export bank KfW IPEX-Bank for a pair of 7,700 dwt ships at the same Dutch yard, with all three due for delivery in 2026.
Meanwhile, the Jiangsu-based yard, a subsidiary of Bestway Marine & Energy Technology, has recently picked up momentum in the small general cargo and multi-purpose segment. As reported, it signed contracts for six 7,350 dwt newbuilds earlier this month, with deliveries running from September 2027 to December 2028.
