Peter Döhle extends boxship run with Chengxi contract
German owner Peter Döhle Schiffahrts is adding to its container fleet with a pair of feeder newbuildings at Chengxi Shipyard in China.
Shipbuilding sources say the Hamburg-based company has contracted the CSSC-affiliated Jiangsu yard, better known for building other vessel classes, for two 3,100 teu newbuilds.
The units, which will come with capacity for about 900 reefer plugs, are each priced at around $48m, with deliveries lined up for 2029.
The move builds on a steady run of boxship contracting for Döhle in China. Last year, the owner ordered four 2,900 teu feedermax vessels at CSSC Guangzhou Huangpu Wenchong, with deliveries scheduled between late 2027 and 2028.
The company has also been linked to a series of five 8,400 teu LNG dual-fuel containerships at Guangzhou Shipyard International, priced at about $121m each.
In 2024, Peter Döhle, which claims control of more than 300 tramp-owned containerships, ordered four 14,000 teu vessels at CSSC-affiliated Hudong-Zhonghua, marking its first newbuild program in nearly nine years.
