Evalend raises dry bulk bet with newcastlemax series
Greek owner Evalend Shipping has been named as the buyer behind a three-plus-one newcastlemax order at China’s Dajin Heavy Industry worth up to $310m.
The yard identified the counterparty only as a Greek owner with interests across the tanker and gas carrier sectors. Shipbroking and market sources have linked the deal to the Kriton Lendoudis-led group.
The firm portion covers three 211,000 dwt bulkers valued at CNY1.575bn ($232m), with the optional ship priced at CNY525m, or about $77m. Evalend has two months to declare the option.
The three firm vessels are scheduled for delivery across 2029 and 2030.
The order marks Evalend’s move into the newcastlemax sector. Shipping data shows the company with over 60 vessels in service and another 31 on order across dry bulk, tanker and gas shipping, but no existing capesize or newcastlemax tonnage.
Dajin Heavy has rapidly built a presence in large bulker construction after moving beyond the offshore wind and specialist vessel sectors. The Chinese group has also secured newcastlemax orders from Danaos, Cape Shipping and John Fredriksen’s Seatankers Management.
