German shipowner Bernhard Schulte and private equity group JP Morgan has reportedly jointly ordered a series of new 5,100-teu newbuildings.
Subic shipyard of HHIC-Phil, the Philippines unit of South Korean Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction also revealed that it contracted for overall 10 midsize boxships (maybe 5 plus 5) with an European shipowner.
Newbuilding price is said to be around $45m per vessel, which totals $450m.
The newly developed 5,100-teu containership, 255m in length, 37m in breadth and 22m in height, is designed eco-friendly and can sail in 21.5knots.
The Yongdo-based shipyard said that Subic yard is also in new order talks with the other owner for same-size containerships.
Meanwhile, Hanjin is now improving Yongdo yard's operational system to secure competitiveness and when the work completes Yongdo yard would also achieve tangible results.
An official from Hanjin said, "Amid stagnant shipbuilding market, Subic yard has successfully bagged the new order, owing to its price competitiveness and high quality."
