Chinese Offshore Spur
Xi Jinping, newly appointed general secretary at China’s 12th National People's Congress, is said to have an interest in offshore industry in Nantong, China.
A senior official of Nantong COSCO Shipyard has explained to Xi Jinping sitting with Jiangsu delegations from the 12th National People's Congress on March 8 about how much global offshore industry is developed, its perspective, and China’s current capacity to build offshore facility, including main problems and a need to improve.
He pointed out that COSCO Shipyard has already reached a level of competing with global shipbuilders in repair, construction and building offshore facility that if shipbuilding corporations do not make a move to offshore segment, they cannot help but have to be in a fierce competition just in low value repair segment in order to survive.
In response, the general secretary asked questions on possible drilling depth or major technologies, thus the industry anticipates the future representative of China, Xi Jinping, to express great attention in the segment in times to come, staying positive after understanding all situations.
