Korean Ship Export Plunge
Last month’s export performance of South Gyeongsang Province in Korea was reported to be the eight month of decline due to a slump in ship, construction equipment, etc.
South Gyeongsang division of Korea International Trade Association announced on March 21 that the province marked about $3.7bn worth of exports in February, showing a 30.9% decrease against the same month last year.
Since July 2012 when the province had a 31.1% of fall compared to the same period of the previous year, February 2013 was the eight months in succession of the down trend. It is said that exports of vessel (-61.7%) and heavy construction equipment (-53.2%) greatly fell due to a global economic downturn.
By exported country, great decreases in exports were found in Africa (-65.1%), Central and South America (-48.6%), Europe (-41.1%) and the Middle East (-39.2%), etc.
Profits of South Gyeongsang Province in February was reported to have declined by 8.6% to $2.3bn comparing with the same month of the previous year with the trade balance to have marked a $1.4bn of surplus.
