Stagnancy just Passed Bottom ?
Having confronted a protracted recession since late 2008 of the world’s financial crisis, global shipbuilding industry is said to just have passed the bottom and a rapid recovery is hard to expect in the future.
Kim Oi-Hyun, Chairman of Korea Offshore & Shipbuilding Association (KOSHIPA), has revealed, “Given the length of tunnel of industry’s recession as ‘10’, the industry has passed only the level of ‘6’,” and continued, “More time seems to be needed to get out of the depression.”
Its that a rapid recovery of the shipbuilding industry is hard to expect as an uncertainty lies on Europe’s economic recovery and financial market’s stabilization. Thus, domestic shipbuilders are urged to increase the rate of using Korean-made equipment for offshore plant and push forward developing new vessels boasting high-efficiency and eco-friendly features.
