While newbuilding bulker orders are notably being recovered with the start of 2013, delivery is shrinking more than previously expected.
Arctic Securities said the first quarter of 2013 saw new bulker deliveries lagging behind schedule. At the start of January, overall about 42.5m dwt was expected to be delivered for the first quarter, but only 20m dwt bulkers are estimated to be delivered.
Added "The orderbook for Jan-13 was 23 million dwt alone and obviously represents a number of postponed or even non-existing orders."
Arctic Securities prospected that overall newbuilding bulker deliveries will reach 71m dwt in 2013.
Meawhile, the analyst revealed that 36 newbuilding capesize bulkers and VLOCs were contracted year-to-date, which exceeds the number of capesizes delivered, 28 vessels.
