Cape Newbuilding Prices Rise

Newbuilding price of tanker showed a decreasing move in full March, 2013, while that of capesize bulker saw a slight increase.
According to a data from China Water Transport, newbuilding prices of VLCC, suezmax, aframax and PC were $91m, $55.95m, $47m and $33.5m, respectively, showing decreases of 0.66%, 0.27%, 0.21% and 0%, each from February. On the other hand, newbuilding prices of capesize, panamax, supramax and handysize bulkers were $46.38m, $25.8m, $24.3m and $21m, each on average that only capesize showed a 0.82% increase compared to the previous month with the rest of them having seen no change.
Average ship prices for 82,000㎥ LPG carrier and 160,000㎥ LNG carrier are reported to have been $70m and $198.88m, each, which representing declines of 0% and 0.31% from February, while 4,800 teu and 1,700 teu containerships remained still at $44.5m and $25m, each on average.
In March, Chinese shipbuilding industry saw a continuously falling move with new order intakes of a total of 83 vessels, having a 53.11% decrease compared to the previous month in numerical terms, however, six Chinese shipyards won orders for 11 offshore drilling platforms and one offshore accommodation platform.
