Chinese Win Bumper Orders

Deliveries of Chinese shipbuilding industry in the first quarter of 2013 declined compared to the same time period last year however, it is reported to have shown an increasing move in newbuilding order intakes.  
According to statistical data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, Chinese shipyards delivered a combined 9.45m dwt during the period from January to March 2013, down by 15.6% against the same period in 2012 and among them, 2.82m cgt of Seagoing Vessels were said to be delivered.  
Newbuilding order intakes during the same period sharply increased by 71.1% to 9.57m dwt year-on-year and by 91.4% from the fourth quarter 2012. Of them, a combined 3.65m cgt of Seagoing Vessels were newly ordered.
As of the end of March, newbuilding orderbook of Chinese shipbuilding industry stood on 107m dwt, showing a 24.6% year-on-year, and stayed at the similar level comparing with the end of 2012. Seagoing Vessel stood on a combined 36.79m cgt of orderbook and export ships account for 85.5%.
