OSX Brasil, the holding group of a Brazilian green yard OSX Acu shipyard, confirmed that MR tanker series on order at the Rio de Janeiro-based shipyard were cancelled by Kingfish Trading.
OSX Acu yard booked an order for 11 45,000-dwt tankers last year, totalling $732m, on the back of time charters from Petrobras. The first vessel of the series was to be delivered in 2014.
However, OSX Brasil confirmed on May 17 in a statement that the order was cancelled but did not comment on the reason of cancellation.
Meanwhile, on the same day, the group revealed it would scale back construction of Acu yard, while it still plans to build the Acu shipyard to its original size and scope, but would limit ongoing construction to that necessary for current orders.
