Shipping and Shipbuilding industries are on the same page when saying that information sharing between each industry leads to not only vessel safety but business sales since both industries are facing constant changes in international standards and trends.
The government and business met to come up with counterplans to respond to information sharing needs and international market changes.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of Korea held a conference to share with shipping and shipbuilding industries about recent international trends in maritime safety, such as pirate problem and so on, alongside international issues, for instance, new standards argued in IMO and etc.
At the conference held in Busan on June 28, around 100 people attended from the ministry, Korean Register (KR) of Shipping, Korea Ship Safety Technology Authority, Korea Shipowners’ Association, owners, marine equipment suppliers and so on. Major items argued in IMO recently were introduced at the conference including ▲safety of passenger ship ▲new voyage facilities ▲energy efficiency of marine engine ▲revision of IMO Ballast Water Management Convention and so on.
In addition, other contents were also discussed, for which owners and shipbuilders are considerately prepare in short and long term, as followings ▲countermeasures to pirates in the west coast of Africa ▲ concentrated enforcement of control by Ports and Harbors Bureau (Sep, 2013) and etc.
