China's Hainan island is planning to develop a shipping and logistics zone complete with deepwater berths and storage distribution facility.

The Hainan provincial government announced recently that it aims to develop a base for storage, distribution and trading of bulk commodity so as to create greater regional economic cooperation between China and Southeast Asia.

In addition, Hainan will accelerate the preparations for phase three and phase four engineering works at Macun port, hasten the construction of deepwater berths in Yangpu port, and complete three 50,000 dwt berths and six 10,000 dwt berths in Nanshan port.
