Turkey-based yard Besiktas has recently obtained two shipbuilding contracts for the construction of two environment-friendly tankers and one multi-purpose supply vessel (MPSV). The two contracts worth about $140 million, a domestic news report said, adding that the three newbuildings will be delivered in 2016.
Groupe Desgagnes, a Canadian shipowner, placed the order of the two 15,000 dwt oil tankers, which will be used to transport asphalt. The two vessels will be powered by LNG and fuel oil.
It is worth noting that the shipyard cooperated with the Canadian shipowner in 2008 in the sale of one newly-built 18,000 dwt chemical tanker which has been renamed to "Sarah Desgagnes" from "Besiktas Greenland", priced at approximately $40 million.
As for the MPSV, the shipowner is Norway-based Myklebusthaug.
Besiktas started building its first vessel in 2008.
