Chinese shipyard Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding has an order from an unnamed Singapore-based customer to build a new type of 45,000-dwt deepsea mining vessel.

The vessel will have a 30-megawatt power system and will serve as a platform for seabed mining as deep as 2,500m.

It will be delivered in 2017. The 227m-long and 40m-wide vessel will have accommodation for 180 crew and mining personnel.
