Chinese shipbuilder Hongqiang Heavy Industry has confirmed an order to build six 3,500dwt bulkers to service East Asian markets.

The Chinese shipyard said that the contract to build the six bulkers took effect after the company received a down payment from an unnamed client on May 28.

Hongqiang Heavy did not disclose the value of the contract, nor when the bulkers are expected for delivery.

The vessels will measure 80 meters in length, 13.4 meters in width, with a draft of 7.5 meters, suitable to carry steel cargoes, the yard said on its website.

The six newbuildings will be classed by Korean Register.
