New York-listed Scorpio Tankers has announced it has purchased an MR product tanker and a LR2 product tanker, both currently under construction at Korean yards.

Scorpio acquired the MR product tanker, currently under construction at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, for around US$37m. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in September .

It also reached an agreement with another party to purchase an LR2 product tanker, currently under construction at Daehan Shipbuilding, for around US$58.5m. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in August, and Scorpio said it will bareboat charter the vessel at US$10,000 per day for up to nine months and take ownership at the conclusion of the charter.

The additions follow the May acquisition of four LR2 product tanker newbuildings for around US$60m each, three of which were acquired from Oslo-listed Navig8 Product Tankers.
