China-based Taizhou Kouan Shipbuilding has secured a contract from a German owner for eight 1,400teu container ships.

Announcing the order on Sept. 16, the yard said that the vessels would each be 153.7m long, 27.6m wide, 12.5m deep, and 7.4m in design draught.

The first ship is scheduled for delivery in August 2017.

This order takes the yard's orderbook to 35 vessels, the majority being Handysize and Ultramax bulkers.
