Singapore-based container line Pacific International Lines (PIL) and China's shipbuilder Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (Holdings) Ltd. have signed a contract for the construction of eight 11,800teu container ships in Shanghai on Sept. 16.

These 314.5-meter-long, 48.2-meter-wide newbuildings will have a draft of 13 meters, and will be the largest boxships in PIL's fleet once the planned deliveries start in 2018.

The parties did not disclose the value of the contract.

This will be the second time that Yangzijiang was tasked to build five-digit TEU container ships in its history, following previous deals with Seaspan for 10,000TEU boxships.

Yangzijiang has delivered thirteen 10,000TEU container ships to Seaspan so far, with four more still under construction.
