Dalian Shipbuilding delivers energy-efficient VLCC CS Hunan Venture
China-based Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Group (DSIC) has completed the delivery of a 307,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) vessel named CS Hunan Venture.
This vessel is said to be one of the most advanced and energy-efficient very large crude carriers (VLCCs) to be constructed in China.
CS Hunan Venture became operational after undergoing comprehensive surveys by the China Classification Society (CCS).
Owned by China Shipbuilding Consulting Company, the vessel will be operated by Wah Kwong Ship Management Hong Kong.
With a length of 333m and a width of 60m, CS Hunan Venture has a cruising range of more than 26,000 nautical miles.
At a normal loading rate of two million barrels of crude oil, it has the ability to sail through the Strait of Malacca with a designed draft of 20.5m.
The Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) of the vessel is more than 20pc below the baseline, which is one of the best for VLCCs of the same size globally, stated CCS.
During surveying, the overall performance indices of the vessel were found to be ‘world first class’.
CCS vice-president Fan Qiang said: “The ship has excellent energy-saving and environmental protection performance because it has a straight bow design profile and is equipped with a new type of the main engine, a 7G80ME-C9.5 made by Dalian Marine Diesel.
“It further has a propeller of large-diameter and high-efficiency, and a before-propeller energy-saving device which DSIC has an independent intellectual property right for. This is a new, highly-competitive, ground-breaking generation of ship design for the newbuild market.”
According to CCS, CS Hunan Venture fulfills the requirement of the Harmonized Common Structural Rules (HCSR).
Furthermore, it meets the specification of the Inventory of Hazardous Materials as per the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Ship Recycling Convention and European Union (EU) regulations.
