Aegean Shipping orders its first LR2 ice-class newbuilds
Greek owner Aegean Shipping Management has returned to Chinese shipyard COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Yangzhou to build its first LR2 ice-class tankers.
The Piraeus-based firm said it has signed up for two product carriers that will comply with the third-stage requirements of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and adopt the most modern, high-quality, and sustainable equipment.
No price or delivery dates have been disclosed for the 114,000 dwt duo that will add to the previous 12 ships built at COSCO yards.
Aegean lists 15 ships on its website, of which nine tankers and six bulkers. The company has ordered eight tankers and six bulk carriers from COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry in total and is its largest European customer in terms of number of ships. The last to deliver was aframax Green Anax in March this year.
