Amid a protracted downturn in global shipbuilding and related industries, Jiangsu Province, China, turned out to have ranked at the top in delivery, new order contracted and orderbook in China and overall market recovery is also seen to recover little by little.
According to a report on the latest development in shipbuilding and related industries, recently released by Jiangsu Province, the province delivered a total of 58 vessels of a combined 2.66m dwt, showing a 2.9% increase, compared to the same time period of the previous year, and of which, orders for foreign shipowners accounted for 85.6% of total, taking a share of 12.8% in global market and 46.7% in Chinese market.
Major 13 shipbuilders in the province are said to have delivered 33 vessels of a combined 2.37m dwt, accounting for 89.3% of total.
Up to the end of February, new orders won by Jiangsu Province in 2013 totalled 73 vessels of 1.37m dwt, sharply increased by 235.0%, comparing with the same time period of last year, and its orderbook stood on 867 vessels of 38.73m dwt, showing a 29.0% decrease year-on-year.
According to statistical data on January to February, 2013, from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, a total delivery of Chinese shipbuilding industry declined by 20.9% against the same time period of last year with contracted new orders increased by 1.9%, yet orderbook decreased by 27.4%. From this data, Jiangsu Province is still seen to have the best earning record in China.
An official at the Jiangsu Economic and Information Technology Commission of China has said that the market may not be said to be positive because eight corporations of 13 major builders still have won no order. However, he added that delivery and new orders contracted up to February in the province showed a growing trend for the first time since last year.
