Two Korean and one Japanese shipyards are said to be in the frame to win eight LNG carrier newbuilding orders.
Malaysian shipowner MISC has shortlisted three yards for its LNG carrier newbuildings project.
Talk was sweeping the market recently that MISC has selected two Korean yards and one Japanese to build up to eight LNG carriers.
Industry sources name Hyundai Heavy Industries, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries as the most likely candidates.
MISC had requested offers on a series of two firm vessels with up to six options. The company had asked shipyards to quote on two types of LNG cargo-containment systems — membrane-type and Moss.
