Global NB orders rise 28%
During October, 2013, an uptrend in new orders and newbuilding prices continued in global shipbuilding industry, of which bulker value is said to have surged the most.
Global shipbuilding yards received orders for 251 newbuildings, up by 28.75% month-on-month, and new orders for bulker and containership turned out to have skyrocketed in October.
According to data from China Water Transport, newbuilding orders for bulker increased by 47.92% to 71 units during the month, compared to the previous month, while tanker orders decreased by 21.95% to 32 units and containership orders were placed for 32 units with a 60% increase month-on-month.
In addition, new orders for LEG carrier, LNG carrier and LPG carrier are said have been placed for 10, 14 and four vessels, respectively. Also, orders for two seismic vessels, seven multi-purpose vessels, one crane vessel, 23 chemical carriers were placed during the same time. As for cement carrier, tug boat and passenger ship, four vessels, seven units and two vessels were ordered. Moreover, three drilling rigs, nine drilling platforms (rigs) and three offshore vessels were ordered along with 27 other ships.
In the full October, yards in China, Korea and Japan received new orders for 146, 49 and nine vessels, respectively.
