Secondhand prices, Uptrend
Overall secondhand vessel prices kept growing in shipping industry in October, 2013.
According to China Water Transport, a total of 196 vessels of a combined 11.12m dwt were traded in global secondhand vessel market during last month. With 9.12-year ship age on average, fluctuations were seen in numerical, dwt and ship age terms as -4.39%, +7.25% and -13.20%, respectively.
By vessel type, 99 bulkers, 57 tankers, 31 containerships, one multi-purpose vessel, two Ro-Ro vessels, two chemical product carriers, two gas carriers, one special ship and one tug boat were traded in the secondhand ship market.
In October, secondhand bulker prices showed an uptrend and its market also displayed relatively active condition. A total of 99 secondhand bulkers were traded, up by 13.79% from the previous month, and, by vessel size, they comprised one VLOC, 13 Capes, six Post-Panamaxes, 15 Kamsarmaxes, 15 Panamaxes, 22 Handymaxes and 27 Handysizes.
Secondhand tanker prices also went up with stable or slightly decreased trading volume. During the same month, the secondhand tanker volume recorded a 10.57% month-on-month decline with 57 units traded and they were one VLCC, one Suezmax, seven Aframaxes, four Panamaxes and 44 PCs.
Moreover, the uptrend was also reported in secondhand containership price. Generally, October is a boom period for containership market and an increased trading volume was seen last month
In October this year, global secondhand containership trade grew by 19.23% month-on-month with 31 units including three Panamaxes, five Handysizes, 12 feeder containerships and 11 others.
