Chinese NB orders surge

In this year to November, global newbuilding orders surpassed 120m dwt with continuing uptrend and Chinese major yards are said to be also experiencing the increasing trend.

According to the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI), Chinese yards won newbuilding orders of a combined 51.86m dwt during January-November of this year, up by 204% year-on-year.

During the period, Chinese yards delivered a total of 38.86m dwt newbuildings, which represents a 23.1% year-on-year decline while standing on 119.23m dwt amount of orderbook, up by 5.2% and 11.5% from the corresponding period a year ago and the end of 2012, respectively.

In this year to November, Chinese yards inked 48.07m dwt ships for export, greatly increasing by 260% from the same period a year ago, while having delivered 32.41m dwt ships for export, down by 24.2% year-on-year.

As of the end of November, ships for export were seen to stand on 104.68m dwt amount of orderbook, up by 11.5% from a year ago.

Ships for export accounted for 83.4%, 92.7% and 87.8% share of total order intake, delivery and orderbook of Chinese shipbuilding industry, respectively.
