New Pure Car and Truck Carrier Delivered to Grimaldi Group by Chinese Shipbuilder
The new Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) Grande Melbourne was delivered to the Grimaldi Group by the Chinese shipbuilder Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding. The delivery and naming of the vessel were carried out during a ceremony held on 22nd October at the Port of Shanghai.
The Grande Melbourne is an Italian-flagged vehicle carrier. The vessel has a length of 200 meters, a beam of 38 meters, and a gross tonnage of 77,500. It has a carrying capacity of 9,241 car-equivalent units (CEU) and can operate on both electric power and traditional fuel.
The ship has been equipped with a state-of-the-art electronically controlled engine, which has much lower fuel consumption and emissions than other vessels in its class. The ship is also classified as ammonia-ready by RINA and is equipped with facilities for shore power.
The vessel has been designed for the efficient transport of vehicles such as cars, SUVs, and vans. It will depart on its maiden voyage on the Grimaldi Group’s Asia-Europe service, carrying around 5,900 cars and 800 lane meters of rolling cargo headed for Northern Europe. Prior to its departure, the vessel will perform cargo operations in the Chinese ports of Taicang and Xiaomo, and in the Thai port of Laem Chabang.
