Idan Ofer’s Eastern Pacific Shipping has added another slice to its already sizeable newbuilding programme, this time with a fresh capesize bulker order in China.

The Singapore-headquartered owner has signed up four 180,000 dwt capesize bulk carriers at Hengli Shipbuilding. The vessels are set for delivery in 2027, with the deal valued between $200m and $400m.

The latest deal lifts Eastern Pacific’s total order intake further, with the company already holding over 140 newbuildings of various types across yards in the Far East.

Hengli has recently confirmed a much broader newbuilding programme for Eastern Pacific, detailing a 12-ship package that ranks among the yard’s largest contracts this year. Valued by brokers at between $1.1bn and $1.6bn, that earlier order spans three vessel segments and includes Eastern Pacific’s return to the VLCC market after a seven-year break.

The capesize order forms part of a wider batch of 11 vessels recently signed by Hengli with a group of international owners. Alongside the four capes, the package includes four 6,000 teu containerships, two LR2 product tankers, and one 82,000 dwt bulker.

With the latest agreement, Eastern Pacific’s total business with Hengli Heavy Industry is now approaching 30 vessels and bolsters its position as one of the most active players in the newbuilding market, running a broad-based orderbook that spans tankers, gas carriers, bulkers and boxships.
